Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Tampa ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Tampa has more dog friendly restaurants than any other city on fechPup, and they cluster in four places: the Riverwalk and Water Street corridor downtown, Hyde Park and South Tampa, Ybor City, and the Westshore mall district. Pick the neighbourhood first and the choice gets easy.

Downtown is the strongest for a full day out, because the restaurants sit along a continuous walkable path. You can start at ULELE on the Riverwalk, walk the dog down to Water Street, and finish at Colombia Restaurant without ever moving the car.

Five places on this list feed the dog directly rather than just allowing it: Gaspar's Grotto, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Boulon, JoToro and Farrell's on the Island.

The Patio Rule, and the Exception ๐Ÿพ

Florida lets cities and counties run a permit program allowing dogs in outdoor dining areas, but not inside a restaurant's food-service area. That is why nearly every entry here specifies the patio.

The exception worth knowing is Doc B's, which allows well-behaved small dogs indoors as well as on the patio. If it is raining or the heat is unbearable, that is the one to remember.

Two more practical notes for Tampa specifically:

  • Covered beats open. Colombia, bartaco and Timpano all have fully covered patios. Between June and September that is the difference between an hour outside and fifteen minutes.
  • Water is not guaranteed. bartaco, Timpano, JoToro and Gaspar's all provide it. Carry your own everywhere else.

Test the pavement before you cross a parking lot in summer. Our guide to hot pavement and dog paws covers the seven-second rule.

๐Ÿ’ฌ COMMON QUESTIONS

Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Tampa: Common Questions

How many dog friendly restaurants are there in Tampa?
Thirty-seven verified by fechPup inside Tampa city limits, spread across downtown and the Riverwalk, Hyde Park and South Tampa, Ybor City, Westshore and Carrollwood. That is before you count the bars and breweries, which we list separately on dog-friendly bars in Tampa.
Which Tampa restaurants have a dog menu?
Five. Gaspar's Grotto offers a doggy dining menu on request, Mad Dogs & Englishmen serves a dog burger or dog chicken for five dollars, Boulon lists a pet menu, JoToro brings out doggie treats, and Farrell's on the Island bakes a pup cookie.
Can dogs go inside restaurants in Tampa?
Generally no. Florida permits dogs in outdoor dining areas under a local permit program but not in indoor food-service areas. The exception on this list is Doc B's at International Plaza, which allows well-behaved small dogs indoors.
Which Tampa patio is best in summer?
A covered one. Colombia Restaurant has a fully covered patio with ceiling fans and heaters, bartaco's is spacious and fully covered, and Timpano Hyde Park is shaded throughout. Open patios are fine from November through March and punishing in August.
Where can I eat with my dog on the Tampa Riverwalk?
ULELE sits directly on it, and Heights Public Market at Armature Works is a short walk north. Colombia Restaurant, Naked Farmer, Boulon and JoToro are all in the Water Street and Sparkman Wharf area at the other end.
Do I need to call ahead?
Not usually, but the dog-friendly seating is the outdoor seating, and outdoor tables in Hyde Park and downtown fill on a good evening. Say you are bringing a dog when you call and they will seat you outside from the start.
