St. Pete's brewery scene is unusually good to dogs, and the Central Avenue corridor is where most of it sits.

Dog-Friendly St. Petersburg, By District ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Looking for dog friendly restaurants in St. Petersburg, Florida is really a question about which of two districts you want to be in, because they offer completely different afternoons.

Downtown and Beach Drive is the polished one. BellaBrava at 204, Stillwaters Tavern at 224 and Tryst Gastro Lounge at 240 sit in a row along Beach Drive NE, facing Straub Park and the waterfront. You can walk the dog along the park, sit down for lunch, and never move the car.

Central Avenue west of 20th Street is the loose one. This is where the breweries and both dog bars are, within about a mile of each other, and where the dress code is a leash and nothing else.

The Rules, and Two Dog Menus ๐Ÿฆด

Florida lets individual cities and counties run a permit program allowing dogs in the outdoor dining areas of restaurants. Dogs are not allowed inside a restaurant's food-service area, which is why almost every entry on this page says patio. Bars and breweries that do not serve food from a full kitchen have more latitude, which is how 3 Daughters and Welcome To The Farm can seat dogs indoors.

Two places serve the dog directly. Both BellaBrava and Stillwaters Tavern put an unseasoned grilled burger patty on the menu at $4.99, and both send $2 of it to Southern Guide Dogs. They sit two doors apart on the same block, so if one patio is full the other has the identical offer.

The off-leash bars work differently again. The Dog Bar charges a day pass or sells a membership and checks vaccination records. Mutts and Martinis registers dogs free but is 21 and over, so it is a night out rather than a family lunch.

In summer, go early or go late. Pavement in downtown St. Pete gets hot enough to hurt paws by midday, and our guide to hot pavement and dog paws covers the seven-second test that keeps a good afternoon from ending at the vet.

๐Ÿ’ฌ COMMON QUESTIONS

Eating out in St. Pete with a dog

Which dog friendly restaurants in St. Petersburg have a dog menu?
Two, and they are two doors apart. BellaBrava at 204 Beach Drive NE and Stillwaters Tavern at 224 both offer an unseasoned grilled burger patty for $4.99, with $2 from each one donated to Southern Guide Dogs.
Can dogs go inside restaurants in St. Petersburg, FL?
Not into a restaurant's indoor food-service area. Florida permits dogs in outdoor dining areas under a local permit program, so the patio is the rule. Bars and breweries without a full kitchen have more freedom: 3 Daughters Brewing and Welcome To The Farm both allow dogs indoors, and Welcome To The Farm restricts it to the patio on Friday and Saturday evenings.
What is a dog bar, and are there any in St. Pete?
A bar built around a fenced off-leash play area, so the dog runs while you sit. St. Petersburg has two, both on Central Avenue: The Dog Bar at 2300 and Mutts and Martinis at 2900. Both require proof of vaccination, and Mutts and Martinis is 21 and over.
Which St. Pete patio is best in summer?
Bayboro Brewing's biergarten. It is shaded, laid with artificial turf rather than hot pavement, has low tables and provides water bowls. Mutts and Martinis is the other strong answer, with three large fans, an air-conditioned off-leash zone and a chilled pool.
Do I need a reservation to bring a dog?
Not usually, but the dog-friendly seating is always the outdoor seating, and outdoor seating in downtown St. Pete is finite on a good evening. Call ahead at the Beach Drive restaurants on weekends and say you are bringing a dog, so they seat you outside from the start.
Where can I take the dog before or after lunch?
Straub Park runs along Beach Drive directly in front of the restaurants. For something bigger, Fort De Soto's dog beach is about half an hour south, and it is one of only three off-leash dog beaches in the whole Tampa Bay area.
